Safety Halo™: laser and LED exclusion zones for machinery

Safety Halo™ is a laser or LED lighting system that projects the exclusion zone of mobile plant on the ground and moves with it, so pedestrians and operators know how far to stay back. Laser up to 50 m, IP68. Developed by Incident Zero in Australia, distributed in Peru by Endeavant.

How it works

The machine's danger zone, projected on the ground

Safety Halo™ projects laser or LED light lines that mark an exclusion zone around the machine and travel with it. Its design starts from neuroscience: an obvious «red zone» triggers in operators and pedestrians the natural response to move away from danger. More in laser exclusion zones in mining.

  • Instinctive responseUnderstood regardless of language or education, with little training.
  • Clear, enforceable distanceIt sets exactly how far to stay from mobile plant.
  • Colour-blind visibleThe highly saturated laser line is also seen by people with red-green colour blindness.
  • Organises the operationGuides trucks to the right distance from the excavator and at ROM hoppers.

On every machine

What the zone looks like on each machine

The Safety Halo™ line marks on the ground the perimeter nobody should cross while the machine works: laser to project far and LED for an even zone around compact plant. Red marks danger, blue a presence warning and green a boundary or guide.

Models

Laser or LED, by machine and distance

All three Safety Halo™ models share the principle and install kits, and come in red, green and blue. The choice depends on machine size and how far the zone must be projected: up to 50 m with Class 3R laser, up to 10 m with Class 2.

Kits and installation

Plug-and-play kits of 2 to 7 lights

Safety Halo™ ships in plug-and-play kits of 2 to 7 lights, laser or LED. Each kit includes the lights with Deutsch DT2 connectors, the junction box with surge protection and 304 stainless brackets with 3M VHB structural adhesive. The laser can connect to the machine's existing lighting circuits.

  • IP68 junction boxSurge protection and 40 A rectifier.
  • 304 stainless bracketHorizontal or vertical mounting with 3M VHB adhesive.
  • Eight install stepsClean, stick the bracket, fix light and box, connect and switch on.

Part numbers

Single light or full kit

Each Safety Halo™ model comes as a single light or a kit. The number of lights depends on the machine size and the perimeter you want to mark, and the x in the code is the colour: R red, G green, B blue.

FAQ

Safety Halo™ FAQ

What is Safety Halo™?
Safety Halo™ is a laser or LED lighting system, developed by Incident Zero in Australia, that mounts on machinery and projects an exclusion zone on the ground that moves with the machine. It sets exactly how far operators and pedestrians must stay back, is understood regardless of language and needs little training.
What is the difference between laser and LED Safety Halo™?
The Laser Safety Halo™ projects a sharp line at distance: Class 2 up to 10 m (mounted at 3 m, a 3 m line) and Class 3R up to 50 m, for shovels, draglines, dozers, loaders and trucks. The SHXL-30 LED Safety Halo™, 30 W and 1,950 lm, draws an even zone around compact plant such as forklifts and skid steers.
Which Safety Halo™ light colour should I use?
All three Safety Halo™ models come in red (638 nm laser), green (520 nm) and blue (450 nm). As a guide, red marks a danger zone, blue a presence warning and green a boundary or guide, for example to align trucks at a ROM hopper. The laser line is visible even to people with red-green colour blindness.
How many Safety Halo™ lights does my machine need?
Safety Halo™ kits range from 2 to 7 lights depending on machine size and the perimeter to mark; the Class 3R laser comes in kits of 2 to 5. We help you define quantity, colour and placement of the lights for a forklift, loader, excavator, dozer, grader, crane or dragline.
Is the Safety Halo™ laser safe for the eyes?
The Laser Safety Halo™ is a Class 2 or Class 3R laser product depending on the model, certified to the EN/IEC 60825-1:2014 and AS/NZS IEC 60825.1 laser safety standards. The light is projected onto the ground to mark the zone; as with any laser, avoid direct eye exposure to the beam.
Does Safety Halo™ withstand mine conditions?
Yes. Every Safety Halo™ model is IP68 against dust and water. The laser has a 6063 aluminium housing, a 304 stainless bracket and a 2-year manufacturer warranty; the SHXL-30 LED is tested to 7 g vibration, has Class 4 EMC anti-interference and runs from −40 to +65 °C.
How is Safety Halo™ installed and wired?
Safety Halo™ installs in 8 steps with a plug-and-play kit: clean the area, stick the bracket with 3M VHB adhesive, fix the light and junction box, connect the box to the machine's power supply and the lights with their Deutsch DT2 connectors. The laser takes 12 to 48 VDC and the LED 10 to 110 VDC.
